Friday, Apr 24 – Sunday, Feb 26, 2026
TBD
Get ready for a true cold-weather adventure at Carson Pass! We’ll snowshoe through scenic alpine terrain to Lake Winnemucca, where we’ll set up camp and spend the night surrounded by snowy peaks. This is a very easy trail, and we won’t rush, making it a great option for Scouts who have never snowshoed before.
Itinerary
- Drive (~3-4hrs depending on traffic) up on Friday night
- Since the pass remains open all winter, we’ll start from the trailhead parking lot and hike approximately 3.5 miles into Round Top Lake
- The next day, we’ll snowshoe back to the trailhead, taking in more of the beautiful backcountry views along the way
What to Bring
- Snowshoes
- Snow boots suitable for hiking (rent/borrow if you don’t have your own)
- Winter-rated sleeping bag (rated to 30°F or lower minimum)
- Two sleeping pads for insulation from the snow (Recommended: one foam pad + one inflatable pad.Two foam pads also work)
- Warm layered clothing suitable for winter conditions (Most Scouts will already have what they need)
This trip will give Scouts a new adventure in a different environment. It will also count as one of the high-elevation camping trips leading up to the PCT backpacking trip.
