9:00am – 4:30pm
Offered by the Order of the Arrow, this essential training prepares Scouts for any winter-oriented adventure, from the upcoming Klondike Derby in February to unit snow camping and other cold-weather activities. And to make it even more memorable, the training will be held aboard the legendary USS Hornet aircraft carrier!
Scouts will learn key winter survival and camping skills, including:
- How to sleep warm in cold conditions
- Choosing the right tent and terrain
- Safely operating stoves and fuel
- Selecting appropriate winter foods
- Performing winter first aid
- Picking proper winter clothing
This training is essential for any Scout planning to take part in winter events — helping ensure safety, confidence, and preparedness in cold-weather adventures.
Cost
- Scout: $18
- Adult: $20
- Hot Dog lunch: $9
Registration
Registrations close on November 29, but this event historically sells out quickly so let’s aim to get our ducks in a row by October 29.
Participation
- This training is not mandatory and not a requirement unless we plan to attend the Council Klondike Derby (Fri, Feb 13 – Mon, Feb 16).
- Attendance (or non-attendance) will not affect any Scout’s ability to join the snowshoe camping trip this winter.
This is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable winter camping skills and experience a truly unique venue! You can find full details here.
