Troop 415 is an inclusive Scouts BSA Troop in San Francisco, welcoming all youth aged 11 to 17.
Troop Structure
We follow over 100 years of Scouting tradition with the Patrol method guiding our Scouts – While adults serve as key leaders, Scouts hold leadership positions and plan the troop’s program.
Troop 415 consists of one combined coed unit in alignment with BSA guidelines. Each troop elects its own youth leaders, who meet in a combined Patrol Leaders Council supported by adult mentors.
Fun fact! Our Scouts come from 11 different zip codes, reflecting the rich diversity of our city.
Meetings
Our troop meets every Wednesday evening at 5:30 PM at Willie Mays Boys & Girls Club in Bay View. Scouts come together to plan activities, practice skills, work on advancement, and enjoy time with friends. It’s the heart of our program and keeps the troop active and connected.

Adult Leadership
Adults in Scouting provide guidance, not commands. The role is responsive, adjusting to the scouts’ development, dynamics, and abilities, rather than being directive. Adults aren’t part of the leadership structure—scouts form patrols, elect leaders, and make decisions, while adults guide and support those elected.
Fun fact 2! Our troop leads the Golden Gate Council with the highest ratio of Scouts and adult leaders who’ve earned Wood Badge.

Jon Gillespie
Troop Committee Chair
Jon helps keep the troop running smoothly (and will happily teach you to say “emu” like a true Aussie.) He leads parent committee meetings, coordinates with other troops and the council on upcoming events, and supports the Scoutmaster. He also makes sure Scouts enjoy plenty of outdoor adventures while learning new skills, having fun, and growing through the program.

Tommy O’Neil
Scoutmaster
Tommy is the main adult leader who works directly with the Scouts. A giant bearded man known for his dad jokes and a quirky sense of humor, he guides and mentors the youth leaders, helps plan activities, and ensures the troop’s program is safe, fun, and educational. His goal is to support Scouts as they learn new skills, take on leadership roles, and grow in confidence.
