Lost Boat Ceremony at the USS Pampanito

Lost Boat Ceremony at the USS Pampanito

Monday, May 25, 2026

Join us for a meaningful Memorial Day outing to the historic USS Pampanito at Fisherman’s Wharf for the annual Lost Boat Ceremony.

This solemn waterfront ceremony honors the U.S. submariners who gave their lives in service and those who remain on “Eternal Patrol.” Established by World War II submarine veterans, the tradition includes a roll call of submarines lost during wartime and peacetime, the tolling of a muted bell, and a ceremonial flag dip.

How Scouts Will Help

Our Scouts have been invited to play an important role in supporting the ceremony. Responsibilities include:

  • Helping guests find seats before the program begins
  • Passing out event programs
  • Leading the Color Guard and the Pledge of Allegiance at the start of the ceremony
  • Assisting on deck during the program by cueing the bell ringers after each speaker reads the names of lost submarines and crew members

Event Details

The event features a military color guard and guest speakers, including Navy veterans and community leaders. It is a unique opportunity for Scouts to reflect on the meaning of Memorial Day, learn about naval history, citizenship, and service while participating in an important community tradition.
