Join us for this year’s Scout-O, the annual orienteering event hosted by the Bay Area Orienteering Club (BAOC) at Tilden Regional Park in Berkeley. Our troop participated last year, and by all accounts it was a smashing success! This is a fun and challenging outdoor event for Scouts of all experience levels.

As described by BAOC:

“Are you and your Scout Troop ready to test your map reading and navigation abilities? Are you ready to pass the map and compass requirements for First Class, Second Class, or the Orienteering merit badge? The Bay Area Orienteering Club is pleased to offer the thirty-second annual Scout-O, a cross-country map and compass adventure designed to test the map-reading ability, compass skills and backwoods savvy of any troop regardless of size or experience.“

This is an excellent opportunity for Scouts to practice navigation skills, work as a team, and make progress toward rank advancement and the Orienteering Merit Badge.

Itinerary

1. Meet at the event location at 9am
2. Teams will begin at staggered times. Exact start times will be determined upon arrival
3. Each team will complete a course before finishing
4. Teams are organized as shown in the shared list

What to bring

Class B uniform

• Lunch and water
• Strong trail shoes
• Long pants (the park has stickers!)
• Pen or pencil
• Watch
• Compass
• Hat and or sunscreen (if it’s hot)
• Rain gear (if it’s rainy)
